Presidio Trails Watercolor Workshop and Artists Talks

Latino/Hispanic Center, Saturday, July 18, 10:30 – 12 noon:
This workshop is designed for youth Ages 8 – 15. Participants will engage in a tunnel book activity where they can create a three-dimensional image and story that describes the ecological habitat and life found in the various areas of the Presidio National Park. Youth under 11 need to be accompanied by an adult. Limited to 25 participants on a first come first serve basis. Materials provided.

Latino/Hispanic Center, Saturday, August 22, 10:30 – 12 noon:
This workshop is designed for adults with no watercolor experience or beginning level who would like an introduction to the medium and learn the basics of mixing color and creating depictions of the natural elements found in the Presidio. Participants will explore various ways to connect the watercolor medium with both representation and personal expression. Limited to 25 participants on a first come first serve basis. Basic materials provided.

Koret Auditorium, Saturday, July 18th, 2:00 – 4:00 pm
The artist will share her ideas and experiences in creating the series of paintings inspired by the walking trails in the Presidio National Park. The presentation will also explore ways in which environmental aesthetic experiences can foster a deeper connection to a place and engender a sense of stewardship in conservation and preservation.

Saturday, June 27th 1-3 pm:
This workshop is designed for all ages and levels. Activities will include painting outdoors while learning a variety of watercolor techniques that can be used to describe both broad impressions and small details observed in the Presidio landscape. Limited to 35 participants. Basic materials provided.

Thursday, July 17th, 7 pm: Heritage Talk:
In this talk Lynn Sondag will share the inspiration behind the paintings and facilitate a conversation on the relationship between aesthetic appreciation and the ethics of environmental conservation.

Saturday, July 25th, 1- 3 pm:
This workshop is designed for youth ages 8 – 15. Participants will engage in a tunnel book activity where participants can create a three-dimensional image and story that describes the ecological habitat and life discovered on a trail in the Presidio National Park. Limited to 35 participants. Materials provided.

Saturday, August 15th, 1 -3 pm:
This workshop is designed for individuals with some level of watercolor experience who are interested in building on what they know and having the opportunity to paint subject matter outdoors. Limited to 35 participants. Basic materials provided such as: No 6 round brush, Hake wash brush, six color palette, and student grade watercolor paper.
